Stage Lighting I Syllabus

Course Objectives:

  • To create an understanding of the basic elements of electricity and circuitry and physics of light applied to theatre practices, terms, and equipment used.
  • To cultivate and practice the skills allowing the student to operate as a stage lighting technician at OCU and at a variety of professional venues.
  • To familiarize the student with the terminology, processes, and tools utilized in creating and implementing a lighting design.  This will enable a student to interpret a light plot and paperwork, hang/cable/focus lighting equipment, and operate a lighting console for a production.
  • To prepare the student for further courses in Stage Lighting Design, where each student will have the opportunity to design lighting for production in a variety of spaces.
